Keep Going
When you start out, day or night,
If your goal is just and right—
Keep going.
When men try to hold you back,
Whether they are white or black—
Keep going.
When you think you can’t go on,
Call on Jesus on the phone.
Keep your head high in the air,
Though your friends may call you square—
Keep going.
When your friends don’t take your side,
Stand with truth and maintain pride.
When a bill you just can't pay,
Try again another day—
Keep going.
When life’s battle seems too much,
Seek the comfort of God's touch.
Save your virtues, young Black girls,
They will prove your rarest pearls—
Keep going.
Rise above the marks of shame,
And immortalize your name.
When mean men your path assail,
To give up is but to fail— Keep going.
When those you love seem not to care,
Know there's no more than you can bear.
And when at last the day is done,
And the final victory won,
God shall say to you, "Well done"—
Keep going.
